When Zeus was born he was immediatly swept away to live in a cave protected by a fairy goat, who fed him with sweet ambrosia. He was swept away because his mother wanted to protect him from his father, Cronus, because he had already swallowed all of Zeus's brothers and sisters in fear that when they grew up they would overthrow him. So, when Cronus asked to swallow Zeus Rhea, his mother, gave Cronus a dusguised rock. When Zeus was older and strong enough he left the cave and married Metis, the Goddess of Prudence. Metis used her tricky powers to make Cronus throw up his other children. Zeus was very happy when his five siblings, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Poseidon, and Hades were free. Zeus took Hera as his second wife after their father, Cronus, surrendered. Zeus then became the God of the Gods. Zeus was also the God of Thunder. He helped many others accomplish some very famous goals and overcome difficult events that have been turned into very exciting myths today. Some of the ways Zeus helped others were, Deucallion's Race when he created a new form of man kind, when he flooded out the people who were attacked by the evils in Pandora's jar, and when he granted Tithonus eternal life. As you can see, Zeus played a very important role in many other lives. He lived on Mt. Olympus and was a great leader that overcame many difficulties. He also helped to keep everything balanced and as it was needed to be. |
