Tithonus was born a Trojan. His father Laomedon, a king, his mother Strymo, a water nymph, but his wife was something special. Tithonus married Eos, however when Zeus granted Tithonus eternal life so he would live forever along with Eos he was not given eternal youth. Tihtonus and Eos were very happy together and had two children named Memnon and Mathion. Both sons eventually died since they were mortal. Because Tithonus would never die he began to shrink as he got older and older. The older he got the smaller he became until one day he became to old and small to be a human and turned into a grasshopper. His wife kept Tithonus in a basket in the corner of her palace. Tithonus was the first grasshopper ever and was the reason they were created. |
